The Holy Father has appointed Professor David Charles Baulcombe, professor of botany at Cambridge University, Great Britain, as an ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the Vatican announced Saturday, September 26, 2020.

Curriculum vitae

Professor David Charles Baulcombe was born on April 7, 1952, in Solihull, Great Britain. He studied at the Universities of Leeds and Edinburgh and was awarded a research doctorate. He has taught in various universities. He focused his research on gene regulation, discovering how gene expression can be regulated at the level of ribonucleic acid (RNA) during normal development and in disease resistance. Since 2017 he has been research professor at the Royal Society and professor of botany in the Department of Plant Science at the University of Cambridge. He has received several awards in the scientific field.
