Pope Receives Prime Minister of Spain

Stresses Importance of Church-State Dialogue

This morning, the Holy Father Francis received in audience, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, His Excellency Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, Prime Minister of Spain, who subsequently met with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States.

The discussions in the Secretariat of State focused on the bilateral relations and on matters of common interest regarding the Holy See and Spain. The importance of constant dialogue between the local Church and the governing authorities was highlighted.

Finally, the Parties turned their attention to some issues of an international nature, such as the current health crisis, the process of European integration, and migration.
