Resignation and appointment of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Naples (Italy)

The Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Naples (Italy), presented by His Eminence Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe.

The Holy Father has appointed the Most Rev. Domenico Battaglia Metropolitan Archbishop of Naples (Italy), transferring him from the Diocese of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant’Agata de ‘Goti.

Curriculum vitae

HE Mons. Domenico Battaglia was born on January 20, 1963, in Satriano, province of Catanzaro, and the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Catanzaro-Squillace. He carried out his philosophical-theological studies at the San Pio X Seminary in Catanzaro.

Ordained a priest on February 6, 1988, he was Rector of the High School Archiepiscopal Seminary of Catanzaro and Member of the Diocesan Commission for Justice and Peace (1989-1992), Parish Administrator in Sant’Elia, Parish Priest of Madonna del Carmine in Catanzaro, Director of the Diocesan Office for Missionary Cooperation between Churches, Parish Priest in Satriano (1992-1999). He was subsequently Collaborator of the Shrine of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Torre Ruggero, Parish Collaborator in Montepaone Lido, and Administrator of the Parish of Santa Maria di Altavilla in Satriano.

Since 1992 he has been President of the Calabrese Solidarity Center, a structure linked to the Therapeutic Communities (FICT) of Don Mario Picchi. From 2000 to 2006 he was Vice President of the Bethany Foundation of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Catanzaro-Squillace. From 2006 to 2015 he held the position of National President of the Italian Federation of Therapeutic Communities.

Elected Bishop of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant’Agata de ‘Goti on 24 June 2016, he was consecrated on the following 3 September.

 

Appointment of Auxiliary Bishop of Tarnów (Poland)

The Holy Father has appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Tarnów (Poland) the Rev. Can. Artur Ważny, of the clergy of the same Diocese, currently Director of the Office for Ongoing Formation of the Clergy, assigning him the titular See of Mazaca.

Curriculum vitae

HE Mons. Artur Ważny was born on 12 October 1966 in Rzeszów, in the same diocese. He completed his philosophical-theological studies at the Major Seminary of Tarnów, in whose diocese he was subsequently ordained a priest on May 25, 1991.

After his priestly ordination, he was Vicar in the following Parishes: Our Lady of Sorrows in Limanowa (1991-1995) and Mary Queen of Poland in Tarnów-Mościce (1995-1999).

He later studied at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warszawa, where he obtained a licentiate in pastoral theology. In 1996 he was appointed Director of the Diocesan Office for Youth Ministry and in 2003 he became Director of the Diocesan Office for University Ministry.

From 2007 to 2014 he was parish priest of Mary Queen of Poland in Tarnów-Mościce and from 2014 to 2019 Director of the Diocesan Office for the New Evangelization. On 14 September 2010, he was entrusted with the ministry of Exorcist. On 25 December 2017 he was appointed Canon of the Collegial Chapter of St. Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist in Mielec.

From 2019 until now he has been Director of the Office for Ongoing Formation of the Clergy and Diocesan Spiritual Father.
