(ZENIT News / Brussels, 12.13.2023).- The Episcopal Conference of Catholic Bishops of Belgium confirmed, through a statement issued on its website, that Pope Francis has confirmed his visit to the country in 2024.
The occasion is the 600th anniversary of the universities of Leuven in 2025 (KU Leuven and UC Leuven). The statement informs that «the rectors of the two universities have invited Pope Francis. Obviously, the bishops of our country strongly support this proposal and have officially invited Pope Francis to make a pastoral visit to the Church in Belgium. The Pope has already expressed his intention to come to Belgium.»
According to the press release, the specific date and program for this exceptional visit will be defined in consultation with the two universities, Belgian civil authorities, and those of the Vatican. It could be a visit lasting one or two days.
