New report shows that nearly 90,000 babies were saved from abortions since Roe v. Wade was overturned in the U.S.

According to the report, before the Dobbs decision, the annual number of abortions was increasing, mainly due to intensive promotion of the abortion pill. However, it is noted that since Dobbs, up to 89,000 unborn children could have been saved thanks to new state protective laws.

(ZENIT News / Washington, 02.22.2024).- The organization National Right to Life published on February 19 the report “The State of Abortion in the United States, 2024,” which highlights key legislative developments at the state and federal levels in the first year after the Supreme Court decision in the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade.

According to the report, before the Dobbs decision, the annual number of abortions was increasing, mainly due to intensive promotion of the abortion pill. However, it is noted that since Dobbs, up to 89,000 unborn children could have been saved thanks to new state protective laws.

Additionally, the report thoroughly examines the extra-constitutional campaign to include the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the United States Constitution, and highlights the potential impact the ERA could have on abortion legislation, a concern now emphasized by prominent abortion advocates.

Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life, commented: “Since the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs, the landscape of abortion in the United States has changed dramatically, with many states enacting laws to protect unborn children and their mothers from the tragedy of abortion.”

Among the highlights of the report are:

– An increase in the number of abortions, with the majority performed through chemical abortion, which increases the risk for women.

– It is estimated that since 1973, over 65 million abortions have been performed in the United States.

– Despite legislative efforts in some states to provide maximum protections against abortion, 26 states and the District of Columbia have guaranteed the right to abortion through judicial decisions, constitutional amendments, or state legislative statutes.

Tobias concluded: “While pro-life educational and legislative efforts are having a positive impact, there is still much to be done to help women and their unborn children.”
