«I wish to renew my affection for the inhabitants of your country, whom I always remember in my prayers, asking God to bless each one of them, their families, and the various social groups so that they can have a peaceful present and a hopeful future,» the Pope said in his brief address today to the Central American president.
The construction of «a society based on justice and peace, fraternity and solidarity» will foster «the integral progress of all, especially the least fortunate,» the Holy Father added.
The papal audience took place on a day when news arrived that at least 90 people died in a fire that broke out in San Pedro Sula prison, in the north of the country. An official blamed the fire on a short circuit.
