Meeting about 2,600 members of Singles for Christ, a Catholic bishop called on young people to make careful use of their freedom, reported CBCP News.
Speaking during Mass at the SFC Metro Manila Regional Conference in Antipolo City Aug. 25, Bishop Francisco De Leon said that freedom means always choosing the good.
Reflecting on Sunday’s Gospel, he reminded the crowd that man and woman are created in the image and likeness of God.
However, he said that sin always has a way of “distorting the original beauty that hinders us from entering God’s kingdom”.
“We are originally beautiful, human nature is good,” De Leon said in his homily. “But this disuse of freedom of what is originally good and beautiful is now ugly.”
SFC members from Metro Manila and other regions gather every year in a per-area grouping for a conference full of various activities such as talks, workshops, and competitions.
The prelate pointed out that if people want to enter God’s kingdom, they must take up their own cross and follow Him.
“Let us once again begin the exercise of self-denial, discipline, and charity,” De Leon added.
“The Lord is calling us to go back to our origin, to what is true, good and beautiful,” he also said.
Established in 1993, SFC is one of the family ministries of Couples for Christ (CFC) to cater to the pastoral needs of single men and women from 21 to 40 years of age.
To date, SFC has about 65,000 members all over the world covering the different continents including Europe, North and South America, Asia, Middle East, Africa an Oceania.
