Archbishop Cesare Nosiglia of Turin presented the exhibition of the Shroud of Turin during a press conference at the Holy See Press Office.
The exhibition, which will take place next year from April 19th – June 24th, will culminate with a visit from Pope Francis on June 21st. The Holy Father announced his intention to visit Turin to venerate the shroud and commemorate the bicentenary of St. John Bosco’s birth during today’s General Audience.
During the press conference, Archbishop Nosiglia noted the significance of past and soon to be papal visits to the Shroud, saying that “it shows a great attention on the part of the Holy See towards this ‘icon’.”
“What is most interesting is that this Shroud gives witness to the Passion of the Lord according to the Gospel and that it was seen throughout history by millions of pilgrims who saw it in the Passion of the Lord,” he said.
The theme of next year’s exhibition will be “The Greatest Love” and includes a logo with an image of the Shroud that was based on proposals from several young students from Turin.
According to a communique by the Holy See Press Office, the event will focus on two main themes: the young and the suffering. “It is precisely for this reason that the Pope has allowed the solemn exposition, which coincides with the Jubilee for the 200th anniversary of the birth of St. John Bosco,” the communique stated.
Two reception centers for pilgrims and those who care for the sick will be available during the exhibition and is run by the Pastoral Ministry for Healthcare in Turin.
“All are welcome to come to the exhibition of the Shroud. We wanted to give particular attention to ‘the world of youth’, on the occasion of the 200 years of Don Bosco and to the sick and the elderly”, Archbishop Nosiglia explained.
The Archbishop also stressed that while the exhibition is free of charge, booking is mandatory in order to ensure the effective management of the flow of pilgrims
