An original documentary series made by Netflix with Pope Francis on the wisdom of the elderly, which should come out in 2021, was announced by the American press agency PR Newswire and Loyola Press on December 16, 2020.

The documentary includes special comments of Pope Francis on the book “Sharing the Wisdom of the Time,” a work that gathers 250 interviews with elderly people in more than 30 countries, which the Pontiff comments on in a conversation with Father Antonio Spadaro.

Fidelity editions, which published the work in French, explain that “Pope Francis takes part himself in it as a ‘grandfather,’ like the others, prefacing it and recalling some souvenirs through the chapters, but also commenting on several stories in the book.”

Inspired by the Pope’s appeal to young generations to recognize the elderly as reservoirs of wisdom, the documentary series presents interviews with elderly people, through the eyes of filmmakers, younger than 30, residing in their countries.

“Sharing the Wisdom of the Time” was a source of inspiration for several global initiatives, including the campaign of the Vatican Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life, exhorting young people to send a virtual hug to elderly people isolated by the pandemic.

The project was also made in partnership with Unbound, a non-profit sponsorship organization, which collaborated with Loyola Press on the book, gathering stories and photos of the elderly on various subjects (love, health, death).
