Monsignor John Gilmartin has been named as the new administrator of the Archdiocese of Glasgow. He will oversee the day-to-day running of the office until a full-time successor to the late cardinal is appointed.

The College of Consultors, a group of 12 senior priests of the archdiocese, said the Vatican was notified of the change via the papal nuncio´s office in London.
Monsignor Gilmartin was born in Glasgow and studied for the priesthood at St Peter´s College in Cardross in Dunbartonshire between 1962-1968. He was ordained June 28, 1968. He has been working as a parish priest at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Cardonald.
