Pope Francis will officially «take possession» of St. John Lateran one week after Easter, the Vatican reported today.
The first of four major papal basilicas of Rome, the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran is the cathedra, or seat, of the bishop of Rome.
The archpriest of the basilica is Cardinal Agostino Vallini, cardinal vicar of the Diocese of Rome.
Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Holy See Press Office, informed journalists today that the Celebration of the Eucharist will take place in the afternoon on Sunday, April 7th, which is the Second Sunday of Easter, also known as “Divine Mercy” Sunday.
Fr. Lombardi stated that the celebration was postponed so as to not coincide with the penitential season of Lent.
