Archbishop Renato Martino, apostolic nuncio and permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, and president of the Path to Peace Foundation, met with Supreme Knight Carl Anderson at the Knights´ headquarters in New Haven, Connecticut, to announce the nomination.
Archbishop Martino said, «The Knights of Columbus have been consistently devoted to supporting the Holy Father and the Holy See on countless initiatives for spreading the Gospel of Christ throughout the world, particularly in their uncompromising defense of the sanctity of human life and the family.»
The Path to Peace Foundation was founded in 1991. In collaboration with the permanent-observer mission of the Holy See to the United Nations, it helps promulgate Church teachings on morality, development, human rights and peace.
This year, for only the second time, the foundation will bestow the Champion Award upon an institution, in recognition of its exceptional service to humanity.
The award will be presented to the Knights at a concert at Carnegie Hall on Nov. 26. Ticket information is available at (212) 370-9614.
