Not-So-Young Need Christ Too

A response to: Benedict XVI Tells Youth: Church Counts on You

Of course it is wonderful that the youth are encouraged to play a greater role in the Church today from Benedict our Holy Father. However in doing this there is a very great danger that another generation may miss out of things altogether.

Since the 1970s, the mess over how the faith was taught has done very real damage to who? Well, yes the middle aged!

They have been taught none of the central themes of Christ’s faith and that of his Church. […] After their confirmations these young people drifted from the Church. Where was the chaplaincy work for them at universities or the groups in parishes or diocese that saw they were drifting away?

These children of this age group are now successful in various forms of business and earn a lot of money even now. Yet who speaks for their age group anywhere unless it is us the parents.

They knew how to serve Mass, the basics of teaching from parents (which the schools so often betrayed through modern teaching methods, as so often parishes did too.) They still remember the prayers we taught them but their children have not even been taught to make the Sign of the Cross. […]

It sometimes seems to be forgotten that these older children do have souls that need redemption and should be getting as much help as the youth today. […]
