“Sad news has reached me about the bloody attack that hit dear Turkey yesterday. Let us pray for the victims, for the dead and the injured, and we ask for the gift of peace for all.”
Pope Francis said this to the faithful in St. Peter’s Square today during his Angelus address, as he reflected on the horrific terrorist attack yesterday during a wedding party.
In the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives among people at a wedding party, killing at least 50, including women and children. According to President of Turkey, ISIS militants are likely behind the attack.
The Holy Father also invited those in the Square to join him in saying a Hail Mary.
As is customary, Pope Francis greeted the pilgrims present and concluded wishing everyone good Sunday and lunch, and telling them to not to forget to pray for him.
