A delegation of bishops from Europe, North America and South Africa will be visiting Jerusalem Tel Aviv, Bethlehem and Gaza over the next week.

The bishops’ visit is part of the Holy Land Co-ordination, a group that every year visits the region to witness to the concern of the Bishops’ Conferences for the Church in the Holy Land and the Assembly of the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land.

The aim of the Jan. 11-16 visit is to gain deeper awareness of the social, political and ecclesial realities in the region with a view to supporting work for justice and peace more effectively.

This entails supporting efforts of the local Church, through the work of Catholic organisations, and supporting the mission of the Apostolic Nuncio, in particular with regard to fundamental and basic agreements.

The bishops’ days will be interspersed with numerous moments of prayer and meetings with the local communities, Catholic prelates from the different rites, students from Christian schools and universities, and with the local authorities.
