Auxiliary Named for Hamilton, Ontario

Benedict XVI appointed Father Daniel Miehm as auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Hamilton, the Vatican announced Wednesday.

The 52-year-old bishop-designate will assist Bishop David Douglas Crosby, 63.

Daniel Miehm was born in Kitchener, Ontario, in 1960 and was ordained a priest in 1989. He holds a license in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas (Angelicum) in Rome.

The Diocese of Hamilton has some 580,000 Catholics in a population of just over 2 million. They are served by some 220 priests and some 375 religious.
