The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Montelíbano, Colombia, the Reverend Farly Yovany Gil Betancur, of the clergy of the diocese of Santa Rosa de Osos, currently adjunct secretary of the Colombian Episcopal Conference.

Msgr. Farly Yovany Gil Betancur

Msgr. Farly Yovany Gil Betancur was born in Donmatías, diocese of Santa Rosa de Osos, Colombia, on 29 June 1974. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the major seminary of Santa Rosa de Osos. He was awarded a licentiate in philosophy and religious education from the Universidad Católica del Norte in Colombia and a degree and specialization in canon law from the Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá.

He received priestly ordination on November 23, 1999, and was incarnated in the diocese of Santa Rosa de Osos.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the parish of San José in Angostura and of the parish of “Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes” in Yarumal (2000-2001); prefect of the minor seminary of Santa Rosa de Osos (2001-2003); formator in the “Santo Tomás de Aquino” major seminary in Santa Rosa de Osos (2004-2005), collaborator in the parish of “San José Obrero” in Bogotá (2005-2009); formator in “Santo Tomás de Aquino” major seminary in Santa Rosa de Osos (2009-2011); and rector of the “Santo Tomás de Aquino” in Santa Rosa de Osos (2011-2017). Since 2018 he has served as adjunct secretary of the Colombian Episcopal Conference.
