The Vatican’s Office for Liturgical Celebrations has released Pope Francis’ event-filled Holy Week and Easter.
According to the list of the Pope’s Liturgical Celebrations published today, all the Masses will be in St. Peter’s Basilica, other than those on Palm Sunday and Easter, which will be in St. Peter’s Square.
The Pontiff will start Holy Week with a Mass on Palm Sunday, March 29, at 9:30 a.m.
On Holy Thursday at 9:30 a.m., he will preside over the Chrism Mass, at which time there will be the blessing of the oils to be used during the coming year.
On Good Friday, the Holy Father will preside at the celebration of Our Lord’s Passion at the Basilica at 5 p.m.
Later the same evening at 9:15 p.m., Francis will lead the traditional Via Crucis or the Way of the Cross at the Colosseum in Rome and will impart his Apostolic Blessing before returning to the Vatican.
On Holy Saturday, Pope Francis will preside at the Easter Vigil at 8:30 p.m.
On Easter Sunday at 10:15 a.m., the Holy Father will preside over Mass in the Square, which will be followed by his traditional ‘Urbi et Orbi’ blessing to the city of Rome and the world from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica.
