Father Gregorio Canonigo, rector of Cor Jesu Seminary in Dipolog City, told UCA News that two seminarians were killed Sunday in the pre-dawn attack on Siocon, 60 kilometers (37 miles) further south.

Marino Acedo and Rhuby Mar Buagas had been assigned to Holy Cross Parish in Siocon, as part of the summer pastoral program.

Military reports said some 70 Moro Islamic Liberation Front guerrillas staged the attack about 2 a.m. Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes told reporters in Manila that eight civilians, six guerrillas, six policemen and three soldiers died in the attack.
