It made that point when announcing its plenary assembly, to be held in the Vatican from Feb. 25-27. In a statement published Thursday by the Vatican Press Office, the academy makes respect for life «the center on which law pivots.»
The assembly, whose theme will be «Nature and Dignity of the Person as Foundation of the Right to Life,» will address postmodern currents of thought opposed to this view, a press statement explained.
John Paul II created the academy in 1994. Its objectives are to study the problems affecting the promotion and protection of life, to report to Church authorities on the development of biomedical sciences, and to promote a culture of life in respect of the magisterium.
