The Pope named Paolo Iddas a Knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great. The honor was conferred by Archbishop John Foley, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, last week.

Iddas helped establish the technological architecture of RIIAL, the Information Network of the Church in Latin America.

The IT technician has been developing his ideas in this area since the 1980s, before Internet became globally accessible, so that RIIAL’s IT services would be available to everyone, including the neediest.

Iddas is involved in a convention on the Church and information technology being held in Monterrey, Mexico, through Saturday.
