In a pastoral letter, the bishops’ conference described as immoral the skewed distribution of food along political party lines, the Daily News of Harare reported.
A party card from the ruling Zanu PF is alleged to be a prerequisite for accessing cooking oil, maize-meal and other essential commodities, the paper said.
«People’s lives are at stake and the nation cannot afford to entertain the politicization of food, while people are starving,» the bishops say.
«Government has failed to provide leadership that enables the creation of an environment that enhances truth, justice, love and freedom,» the letter said, according to the Internet service iAfrica.com.
