John Paul II Set to Lead Midnight Mass

VATICAN CITY, DEC. 24, 2004 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II lit a candle at the window of his private apartment overlooking St. Peter’s Square, prior to celebrating Christmas Midnight Mass at the Vatican.

He was scheduled to preside over the Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, and to impart his traditional Christmas blessing to the city of Rome and the world at midday Saturday.

More than 100 television stations will broadcast the Mass and the Christmas Day blessing.
