Archbishop Budzik, 59, succeeds Archbishop Jozef Miroslaw Zycinski, who died in February at the age of 62.
Stanislaw Budzik was born in Lekawica, Poland, in 1952, and ordained a priest in 1977. Having studied dogmatic theology in Austria, he worked as director of diocesan Caritas, then director of the "Biblos" publishing house and later as rector of the major seminary of Tarnow.
He currently serves as the secretary-general of the Polish Episcopal Conference
The Archdiocese of Lublin ministers to a population of 1.15 million, of which 1.12 are Catholic. It counts with 1,328 priests and 1,043 religious.
