Mexico High Court Upholds States' Defense of Unborn

MEXICO CITY, SEPT. 30, 2011 (Zenit.org).- Mexico’s Supreme Court in two days has upheld two states’ amendments that protect life from conception.

Decisions Wednesday and Thursday affirmed the constitutionality of amendments in the states of Baja California and San Luis Potosi.

Eighteen of Mexico’s 31 states have right-to-life amendments, many of them passed or strengthened after the Federal District of Mexico City legalized abortion in the first trimester in 2007.

Given the court decisions this week, it is likely that similar amendments in those states will stand.
