The sixth hearing of the criminal trial of Giuseppe Profiti and Massimo Spina, accused of embezzling funds of the Bambino Gesu Foundation, was held yesterday, October 2, 2017, at midday in the Tribunal of the Vatican City State.
The accused, both of whom were present, were accompanied by their appointed lawyers: Antonello Blasi for Giuseppe Profiti, and Alfredo Ottaviani for Massimo Spina.
The court was made up of President Professor Paolo Papanti-Pelletier and Judges Venerando Marano and Carlo Bonzano. Professor Roberto Zannotti, Deputy Promoter, represented the Office of the Promoter of Justice.
Also present was Gianantonio Bandera, a witness. The audience ended at 4 p.m. and was dedicated to the questioning of this witness, as requested by the Promoter of Justice and the defense lawyers.
The Tribunal issued an ordinance to renew the appointment of witnesses Tommaso Di Ruzza, Director of the Financial Information Authority, and the President of the Bambino Gesu Children’s Hospital, Mariella Enoc.
The court scheduled the next audience for Friday, October 6 at 12:30 p.m.
The audience, dedicated to the questioning of the accused Giuseppe Profiti by the president, by the deputy promoter of justice and by the defense lawyers, ended at 8:30 p.m.
