The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of San José de Costa Rica, Costa Rica, Rev. Daniel Francisco Blanco Méndez, of the clergy of the Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica, currently vicar general and pastor of the Virgen del Carmen parish in San José, assigning him the titular see of Pulcheriopoli.

Bishop-elect Daniel Francisco Blanco Méndez was born in San José on October 4, 1973. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the National Major Seminary of Costa Rica. He holds a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
He received priestly ordination on December 8, 2000, and was incardinated in the Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the parishes of San Luis de Tolosa, Sagrada Corazón and San Isidro Labrador, parish administrator of the parish of El Carmen, pastor of the parishes of San Isidro Labrador and San Juan María Vianney, judge auditor of the National Ecclesiastical Tribunal and archdiocesan chancellor. Since 2016 he has served as vicar general of the archdiocese and pastor of the Virgen del Carmen parish in San José.
