A new website is dedicated to Pope Francis’ pastoral visit to Palermo on September 15, 2018, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the murder of Blessed Father Pino Puglisi (1937-1993), reported L’Osservatore Romano in Italian on Friday, July 20, 2018.
“It’s not just a simple service page, but a veritable instrument for involvement, preparation and accompaniment,” emphasized the Vatican daily. Young people, in particular, are called to prepare themselves for the regional preparation gathering entitled: “Where do you live? Choose with faith, choose the Church and choose the Mediterranean,” which will begin on September 14, the eve of the papal visit, with moments of testimony, which will be followed in the evening with a Prayer Vigil and a celebration dedicated to Father Puglisi. It will end on the afternoon of Saturday, September 15, with a meeting with the Pope.
On the first page of the site, Metropolitan Archbishop Corrado Lorefice explains that the meeting with the Pope will be, for the whole Palermo community, “a happy and propitious occasion to have fructify the missionary enthusiasm and creativity of witnessing the Gospel, which characterized the whole pastoral ministry” of the parish priest of Brancaccio, “and which so marked the ecclesial and civil conscience of our well-beloved diocese and, in particular, the life of numerous young people.”
The site includes all the news on the events of the program, a plan with the doors of access and information to request the necessary passes for the meetings in the Cathedral (priests, religious and seminarians) and in Politeama Square (young people) as well as for the Mass that will be celebrated in the Foro Italico, on the liturgical memorial of Blessed Pino Puglisi.
The “News” section is constantly updated. It makes known the different initiatives, which will take place during the whole summer, in anticipation of the September 15 meeting. The “Social” section, with links to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Telegram pages of the visit and of the Archdiocese of Palermo – also envisions the active participation of the very young, through the exchange and sharing of opinions, debates, and improvised forums. The diocesan Radio chain Spazio Noi in Blu, which dedicates a series of transmissions on the event, is available live on the site.
