Pope Receives Prime Minister of Slovenia

Contribution of the Church to Society, Especially in Education, Highlighted

Pope Francis met with Prime Minister of Slovenia, Mr. Marjan Šarec, this morning.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office this morning noting their discussions were cordial, it stressed that the parties evoked the good bilateral relations between the Holy See and Slovenia, «and expressed the hope that these may be consolidated through the signing of specific agreements on some matters of common interest.»
«In addition,» the statement noted, «the positive contribution of the Catholic Church to the life of the country was highlighted, especially in relation to education, with the hope that cooperation in this field may be further strengthened with appropriate institutional initiatives.»
Finally, attention turned to the international context, «with particular reference to the future of the European project and the current challenges affecting the region.»
After meeting with the Pope, the prime minister met with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
