Pope Francis on December 26, 2019, offered prayers for the people of the Philippines, stuck on Christmas Day by typhoon Phanfone.
«I join in the pain that hit the dear population of the Philippines because of the typhoon Phanfone,» the Holy Father said after praying the Angelus with a large crowd gathered in St. Peter’s Square on the Feast of St. Stephen the Martyr. «I pray for the numerous victims, for the injured and for their families. I invite everyone to recite the Ave Maria with me for this people to whom I love so much.»
The typhoon caused extensive damage in largely Catholic areas and left at least 16 dead CNN reported.
