(ZENIT News / Washington, 09.07.2022).- In response to the decision of the Supreme Court, on Friday, July 8 President Biden signed a pro-abortion Executive Order.
The President issued an Executive Order Protecting Access to Reproductive Health Care Services. Formalized with this Order are instructions for the American Union’s Department of Justice and Health to favour pro-abortion measures, for example, the distribution of abortifacient drugs at the Federal level and trips beyond their State for women in States where abortion is illegal. Biden also asked for the guarantee of privacy for women choosing abortion.
The ”ceremony” of the signing of the Executive Order, in which Biden was accompanied by Kamala Harris, became a campaign event in which Americans were called upon to vote for the Democratic Party to ensure abortion laws in the country. Days earlier, Planned Parenthood asserted that it would invest US$150 million in pro-abortion candidates for the 2022 Fall elections.
Naral Pro-Choice America applauded Biden’s measure, recognizing it and greeting it as a first step.
The U.S. Catholic Bishops issued a statement through Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore, President of the Pro-Life Activities Committee of the United States Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
“In response to the Dobbs decision, I make an appeal for the healing of wounds and reparation of the social divisions, for reasoned reflection and civil dialogue, and to come together to build a society and economy that support marriage and the family, and where every woman has the support and resources she needs to bring her child into this world in love.
“And, as religious leaders, we commit ourselves to continue our service to God’s great plan of love for the human person, and to work with our fellow citizens to fulfil the United States’ promise to guarantee the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all.
“It is profoundly disturbing and tragic that President Biden opts to use his power as President of the United States to promote and facilitate abortion in our country, seeking all possible ways to deny the unborn their most basic human and civil right, the right to life. Instead of using the power of the Executive Power to increase the support and care of mothers and babies, the President’s Executive Order seeks only to facilitate the destruction of defenseless and voiceless human beings.
“I implore the President to abandon this way, which leads to death and destruction, and to choose life. As ever the Catholic Church is ready to work with this Administration and all elected officials to protect the right to life of all human beings and to guarantee that pregnant mothers and with children receive full support in the care of their children before and after birth.”
