(ZENIT News / Rome, 05.14.2024).- A class-action labor lawsuit is what 49 employees of the Vatican Museums intend to pursue, represented by a lawyer already known for other litigations in Vatican City: Laura Sgro.
The employees, mostly hall custodians, allege a lack of safety measures in the workplace, deficiencies in their healthcare coverage, and underpayment for overtime work. They are demanding a reevaluation of their employment benefits to match those of other European countries.
Given that there are no labor unions or labor courts in Vatican City, it is unclear what course the lawsuit might take. As far as ZENIT has learned, lawyer Sgro has formally brought the claim to the Governorate of Vatican City.
