(ZENIT News / Seattle, USA, 06.20.2026).- CitizenGO has launched an international campaign against International Football Organization and the Seattle The Global Festival of Sport Organizing Committee’s decision to designate the June 26 The Global Festival of Sport match between Egypt and Iran in Seattle as an official «LGBT Pride Match,» warning that the world’s most important football tournament is being used to advance ideological activism instead of uniting fans through sport.
In just a few days, people from all around the world have signed CitizenGO’s petition calling on International Football Organization President Gianni Infantino and the Seattle International Football Organization the Global Festival of Sport 2026 Organizing Committee to reverse the decision and restore political neutrality to the tournament.
The controversy centers on International Football Organization endorsement of a match-specific Pride designation, a move that many football supporters view as incompatible with the organization’s long-standing claims that football should remain free from political, religious, and ideological messaging.
CitizenGO argues that the Festival of Sport Organizing Committee’s decision to designate the June 26 should serve as a global celebration of sport and international friendship, not as a platform for promoting any political or social agenda, and that applying ideological branding to official matches risks alienating millions of supporters who simply want football to remain focused on the game itself.
The campaign seeks to bring the voices of tens of thousands of football fans to the host city and publicly challenge what it sees as the politicization of the tournament.
«Football belongs to everyone. The World Cup should unite people across cultures, religions, and nations, not be used to promote ideological activism,» said Sebastian Lukomski, Global Campaigner at CitizenGO. «People are speaking out because they believe FIFA is abandoning its own commitment to neutrality.»
CitizenGO’s campaign calls on International Football Organization and local organizers to remove the «Pride Match» designation, reaffirm the organization’s commitment to neutrality, and keep the focus of the The Global Festival of Sport on football, sportsmanship, and international unity.
The campaign continues to gain international support as football fans and concerned citizens express growing opposition to what they see as the ideological use of the world’s most-watched sporting event.
