On Friday, a group of six Maghrebian men insulted, robbed and struck a 23-year-old woman, accompanied by her 1-year-old son, in a train just outside the French capital. No one in the railway coach came to her assistance immediately.

Before escaping, the assailants also knocked over the stroller carrying the baby. Authorities said the attackers believed the woman was Jewish.

The French Ministry of the Interior said that over the last six months there has been an increase of verbal attacks against Jews, of profanation of cemeteries, and attacks on synagogues by Arab immigrants.
