They will also seek similar strategies for the body that brings them together, the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE).
The president will meet this in Rome in a plenary assembly. The meeting, which begins Sept. 29, and will be hosted by the Pope’s vicar for Rome, Cardinal Camillo Ruini, president of the Italian episcopate, will pivot around the Second Vatican Council and Europe on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the council’s close.
According to the communiqué of the CCEE, the assembly, which will close Sunday, will consider pastoral issues such as vocations, catechesis, schools, universities, social media and migration.
The prelates will also reflect on the Italian referendum on assisted fertilization, and on Spain’s debate on the family and Europe’s on euthanasia.
They will also consider the relationship between the Churches and the European Union, and the process of European unification, following the French and Dutch rejection of the Constitutional Treaty.
