The House of Commons today voted 181-1 in favor of preventing the sex of a baby to be cause for abortion.
The Abortion (Sex-Selection) Bill was introduced by Fiona Bruce and it would make clear that it is illegal under the 1967 Abortion Act to abort a baby because of its sex.
Bruce said, “I find it deplorable that anyone would be satisfied to provide a sex selective abortion to a woman who after she has had it is then sent afterwards back to an abusive partner. What needs to be addressed in these dire circumstances is the abuse itself. That is one of the aims of this bill.”
The bill will now proceed to a second reading in the House of Commons.
