(ZENIT News / Vatican City, 11.21.2023).- On the evening of Tuesday, November 21, Pope Francis attended the New Synod Hall at 6:30 p.m. during the screening of the documentary «Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s fight for freedom,» directed by Evgeny Afineevsky. The event took place in the presence of several members of the Diplomatic Corps, including the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Holy See, as well as Italian and international guests.
The Pope stayed until the end of the screening, and after a minute of silence in prayer for the victims of the conflict and a brief speech by the director, he extended words of greeting to the participants and thanked them for bearing witness to so much pain. «Wars are always a defeat,» he reminded, «and we, who have witnessed this cruelty, must stand close to so much suffering and pray for this people, pray for peace to come.»
Before bidding farewell, the Pope individually greeted some of the guests and returned to the Casa Santa Marta.
