The president of the Renewal in the Spirit of Italy, Salvatore Martinez, will be in Washington, February 5-7, to participate in the 62nd National Prayer Breakfast.

Martinez will be participating for the eleventh time at the traditional Prayer Breakfast, organized by a special commission of Congresspersons.

Some 160 delegations attend with more than 2,000  invitees to discuss themes of world happenings, perfecting international collaboration on projects of solidarity, development and human promotion.

The object of the Meeting is to continue to develop the ideal of universal brotherhood, inspired by the Gospel message,  to be able to share as much as possible the research for and the practice of common good.

«Our globalized world,» Martinez said, «calls for a ‘diplomacy of  friendship,’ a new culture of fraternity, relations based on high values of the Gospel as a school of true social humanism. In this sense, the example of Pope Francis, his attention towards the poor and the forgotten of the world, is of great inspiration and encouragement for every type of leadership. By now anti-politics, lack of trust, the crisis of representation, religious intolerance is growing everywhere. It is urgent to start again from an integral and transcendent humanism, promoted by men and women who have not lost their passion for justice and for the development of peoples in solidarity. Increasingly, too many, among the younger generation in a special way, see their future of freedom and peace vanishing.

«No one will benefit by creating pockets of poverty and indifference; that is why meetings such as those of Washington can bring about important reversal trends. The annual meeting of the National Prayer Breakfast, breaking away from nationalistic and auto referential schemes, gives this opportunity in a very concrete and original way, for a new and more generous building of the world.»
