Regnum Christi and Legion of Christ Prepare for General Chapter

Will Offer Prayers and Sacrifices for Their Renewal Process to the Sacred Heart

On June 16, 1675, when kneeling before the tabernacle, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque reported a vision of the Lord Jesus revealing his Sacred Heart to her. He said: «Behold this Heart which has so loved men….in return, I receive from the greater part only ingratitude, by their irreverence and sacrilege, and by the coldness and contempt they have for Me in this sacrament of love.  And what is most painful to Me …is that they are hearts consecrated to Me.»

In an effort to make up for the “ingratitude, irreverence and sacrilege” from all “consecrated hearts,” including their own, members of the Legion of Christ and the Regnum Christi movement will offer prayers, sacrifices and sufferings through their renewal process to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Tomorrow, May 29, 2013, is the day the Church begins the novena to the Sacred Heart, the feast of which is June 7, 2013.  In a letter sent to members of the movement today, Fr. Sylvester Heereman LC, Gloria Rodríguez and Jorge López, the movements directors, asked its members to pray the novena and to seek reconciliation with the Lord and with their brothers and sisters in the Church during these months prior to their General Chapter and General Assemblies.

The letter states the movement is approaching the “end of an institutional journey” and details the process to come. “A few days from now we will hold the meeting of the representatives of the first and second degrees here in Rome,» the letter stated.

«During the summer, the territorial assemblies that will revise the draft of the Constitutions of the Legionaries will take place. After a few months, possibly after summer, we will send the official invitations to the General Chapter of the Legion, the General Assemblies of the Consecrated Men and Women, and the General Assembly of all of Regnum Christi, which we plan to hold in the first months of 2014. With these events, we will conclude the path that the Church has marked out for us as an expression of maternal care and concern for this work of God.”

The authors of the letter state the renewal “in holiness depends upon our capacity of living up to the truth in our own lives and of being open to embracing the grace of conversion to the Heart of Jesus. Let us all pray insistently that God prepare a wonderful outpouring of his grace on this work of His, and that a great Pentecost will follow on the suffering He has asked of us. The gift given will be in proportion to the suffering requested.”

The leadership and members are asked to pray and “offer up” for their personal conversion and as a community.

The letter continued, “We want to arrive at the Chapter and the Assemblies having reached a greater clarity regarding the gift God is giving to the Church by means of Regnum Christi…We want to renew our personal and institutional commitment to place our talents at the service of the Church with humility, gratitude and enthusiasm.”
