VATICAN CITY, JAN. 30, 2011 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI today offered his congratulations to the countries of the Far East who will be celebrating the Lunar New Year in the coming days.
The Pope today extended his greeting for the feast, after he had prayed the midday Angelus with thousands who had gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
He noted how it is a holiday celebrated in the «intimacy of families.»
«To all those great peoples I wish from my heart serenity and prosperity,» the Holy Father said.
Lunar New Year is the most important of Chinese holidays; it is celebrated by other countries of Asia as well, including Vietnam and Korea.
