Pope Francis appointed a French consultant to the Dicastery for Communication on October 30, 2019: Jean-Marie Montel, Deputy Director of the Bayard Group and President of the Federation of Catholic Media.
According to Vatican News, he has been collaborating with the dicastery for two years as part of St. Francis de Sales Days and he was involved in the World Days of Catholic Publishers organized in Rome last June.
Graduate of the Institute of Political Studies of Grenoble and the French Press Institute, Jean-Marie Montel has held many responsibilities in the ecclesial, media and associative fields: he was in particular delegated to the communication of the Scouts of France of 1995 to 2001, general delegate of the association Civisme et Démocratie (CIDEM) from 2001 to 2005, CEO of Malesherbes Publications (La Vie-Le Monde group) from 2006 to 2012, managing director of Milan Presse from 2012 to 2013.
He joined the Bayard group – publishing and press related to the congregation of Assumptionists – in 2013 and was appointed deputy general manager in July 2017. The group publishes the daily newspaper La Croix.
The Dicastery for Communication, created during the reform process of the Roman Curia and led by the Prefect Paolo Ruffini, brings together the media of the Holy See.
