Just In: Pope Accepts Resignation of Bishop Malone of Buffalo, New York

Appoints Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger to be Apostolic Administrator

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Richard J. Malone, who has been the acting Bishop of Buffalo, New York.

This was announced in today’s bulletin from the Holy See Press Office, expressing the Pontiff accepted the resignation and has appointed Archbishop Edward B. Scharfenberger, the Bishop of Albany thus far, to be the Diocese’s Apostolic Administrator

Bishop Malone was in Rome for his region of US bishops’ ad limina visit last month.
