Understanding the Feminine Genius

A response to: Catechize the Whole Woman

Elizabet Durack is obviously alluding to Pope John Paul II who coined the expression, "the feminine genius." In his epochal book, "Theology of the Body," and his catechesis over the years, this great Pope spoke glowingly of the mystery of womanhood, which comprises more than just woman's ability to have children. Woman's femininity is a treasure not just for woman herself but for Church and society, as well. It is no exaggeration to say that we are just now beginning to probe ever more deeply into the "feminine genius," as God gave it to us. In the years to come, we will need to study in depth the Church's anthropology of the sexes, so as to better know women, as well as men, in their unique giftedness.
