The Cardinals’ Statement
We wish to inform you that yesterday, upon learning of the Holy Father’s hospitalization, we wrote to him, first and foremost, to assure him, on behalf of everyone, of our most sincere and fraternal prayers for his health.
Given that he has been unable to attend the meeting these past few days or to listen to the proceedings as he had so greatly wished, no final address from him is expected.
Therefore, we have agreed on the following with the Holy Father:
*The summary report of the meeting will be presented and discussed in the Hall next Wednesday, as scheduled; however, contrary to the initial announcement, it will not be made public.
*Once the Holy Father has completed his convalescence, we will present the assembly’s results to him, which he is awaiting, by providing all the texts of the interventions and the reports from the 16 groups (we have already sent him those from the first few days), as well as the summary report and the results of the final plenary debate.
We will then proceed according to his instructions.
