The inventory is expected to take two years to complete. In addition to its museum collections and the hundreds of thousands of rare books and manuscripts of its library, the Vatican has period carriages and arms, music scores, photographs, geographic maps, statues, frescoes and valuable stamps.

The inventory will include parks, residences and gardens of aesthetical or historical interest, and all objects of interest for the history of science and technology. No such inventory has even been done before, sources said.
