Latin-Caribbean Conference Scheduled for 2007

VATICAN CITY, JUNE 9, 2004 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II approved the holding of the 5th General Conference of the Latin American and Caribbean episcopates in Rome in February 2007, the Latin American bishops’ council (CELAM) reported.

The decision was made May 27 when the Pope received in audience Cardinal Francisco Javier Errázuriz Ossa and Bishop Andres Stanovnik, president and interim secretary-general of CELAM, respectively.

CELAM’s statement did not reveal the specific theme of the conference.

The last conference was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1992.
