Mel Gibson's "The Passion" on Russian TV

Mel Gibson’s movie on the passion and death of Christ was shown on Rossiya TV on the eve of Orthodox Easter, which was celebrated today.

Also, according to tradition, the faithful would ring the church bells on each day of Holy Week, or «Great Week» as the Orthodox Church calls it.

The tradition was lost during the Soviet era, and today only a small number of people know how to do it.

Bell ringers in Archangelsk in northern Russia have decided to renew this tradition, making available on a Russian-language Web site all the necessary information on this ancient art: techniques, scores and a chat room.
