In reading Our Holy Father’s comments I was again brought to the realization of the importance of spiritual direction. Sadly, in our country, few priests or bishops are willing to take upon themselves this responsibility. Often their reasons are very legitimate. Simply they are too busy with administrative functions; meetings; Masses; visitations etc. In other words, they can not be everywhere for everyone.

In my case, I have searched for a spiritual director for some time. I pray that God will someday help His lowly servant to find a holy man or woman who can be trusted to give orthodox Catholic direction.

The role of a spiritual director is not that of a psychologist, but one of knowledge of the path of perfection and holiness. In the deepest sense this path entails the desire to walk intimately with Christ on and share His Cross. Perhaps I need to look more closely at myself and allow anyone to lead my soul and trust that Our Lord will protect.
