Holy See, Lower Saxony Sign Accord

HANOVER, Germany, APRIL 15, 2010 (Zenit.org).- The Holy See and the German state of Lower Saxony agreed to modify a 1965 concordat to regulate the legal situation of some Catholic schools run the by Dioceses of Hildesheim, Osnabruck and Munich.

With an April 6 agreement signed in Hanover by the apostolic nuncio in Germany, Archbishop Jean-Claude Périsset, and the minister-president of Lower Saxony, Christian Wulff, the entities provided for certain modifications in schools and an increase in the number of students in some diocesan schools.

“The agreement modifies Article 6 of the annex to the concordat between the Holy See and the state of Lower Saxony,” a note today from the Vatican press office explained. “It regulates the juridical position of some Catholic schools run by the Diocese of Hildesheim, Osnabruck and Munich in that Land.”
