Sri Lankan media is reporting that Pope Francis will visit the country from January 13 to 15 next year.
The reports say Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, confirmed the news on Monday. The Vatican has yet to confirm the dates.
During a press conference on his way back from the Holy Land last month, Pope Francis said he would visit the Philippines and Sri Lanka in January for two days but gave no definite dates and details.
Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa invited the Pope to visit the country in a letter sent last August.
Francis, who is to visit South Korea August 14-18, has said he is keen to visit Asia as Benedict XVI was unable to make a papal trip to the continent during his pontificate.
